Requirements

EchoCare Notes runs on iOS/iPadOS 26 or later on an Apple Intelligence–capable device: iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, any iPhone 16 or later, or an iPad with an M-series chip. Apple Intelligence must be turned on (Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri) for note generation — recording and transcription work even where it isn't available yet (for example, right after setup while models are still downloading).

FAQ

Does my data leave my device?

No. Recording, transcription (Apple SpeechAnalyzer), note generation (Apple Intelligence), and English↔Spanish translation all run on your device. The app has no account, no server, and never transmits your recordings, transcripts, or notes. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Which note formats are supported?

SOAP, DAP, and BIRP structured notes, plus narrative summary and outline. Pick a format when you start a session, or reformat an existing session later without re-recording. You can also add your own standing instructions in Settings to guide how notes are written.

Does it work in Spanish?

Yes. Choose English or Español before recording — transcription and the generated note follow your choice — and you can translate an existing session between the two languages. Everything stays on-device.

Note generation says it's unavailable. What do I check?

Generation needs Apple Intelligence: confirm your device supports it, that it's enabled in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, and that its model download has finished (it can take a little while after setup, and pauses on low battery or low storage). Your recording and transcript are kept, and you can generate the note once it's ready — nothing is lost while you wait.

Why does the first transcription take a moment to start?

On first use, iOS downloads Apple's on-device speech model — a one-time system download from Apple that contains no user content. After that, transcription starts immediately and works offline.

The app won't record. What do I check?

Recording needs microphone permission. If you declined it, enable it in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > EchoCare Notes. Also make sure a call or another app isn't holding the microphone.

Can I start a recording with a Shortcut or NFC tag?

Yes. The app exposes a "Start Recording" App Intent: add it in the Shortcuts app, or write that shortcut to an NFC tag so a tap on your desk opens the app and starts recording.

How is my data protected?

Everything is stored on your device, encrypted at rest by iOS file protection, and the app can require Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to open. The app's content is also hidden from the app switcher.

How do I export or back up my notes?

Open a note and tap the export button (the arrow icon). After a quick reminder that an exported file no longer has the app's on-device protections, the note is saved as a plain-text file and handed to the iOS share sheet — so you can save it to Files, email it, AirDrop it, or send it anywhere you like. There's no automatic cloud backup: your notes stay on your device, encrypted at rest, and exporting is how you take a copy with you.

What happens to my notes if I delete the app?

They're gone. Notes live only on your device — there is no cloud copy — so deleting the app deletes its data. Export anything you need to keep first. Your one-time purchase itself is tied to your App Store account, so reinstalling is always free.

Is EchoCare Notes medical software?

No. It's a documentation aid for clinicians — it doesn't provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and generated notes should always be reviewed before they enter a record.
