Privacy Policy

Lunaday is built to keep your information on your device. It has no account or sign-in, shows no ads, and includes no analytics or tracking SDKs.

Location

To show accurate sun, moon, and tide times for where you are, Lunaday may use your device location, with your permission. Your location is used on your device to calculate these times and to find your nearest tide station. Lunaday saves your most recent location, rounded to about 1 km, with its time zone and a city-level place name (never a street address), in its own storage on your device, so the main screen can show moonrise and moonset without asking again. When you turn off location access for Lunaday, it deletes that saved location and stops using it. A place you choose by hand is also saved on your device until you switch back to your own location. To look up the place name and time zone, Lunaday sends the rounded location to Apple’s geocoding service (see Network requests below). Lunaday never sends your location to the developer, keeps it on a server, or uses it for advertising. If you don’t grant location access, Lunaday uses an approximate default location for these times — and moon phase and illumination don’t need your location at all.

Calendar

Lunaday is a calendar app: with your permission it reads and creates events in your device’s calendar through Apple’s EventKit. This stays on your device and is never sent to the developer or anyone else.

Network requests

On its own, Lunaday makes only three kinds of network request, and it puts no account, name, contact information, or device or user identifier into any of them:

• NOAA tide predictions — when a NOAA tide station is near you (mostly on U.S. coasts), tide predictions come from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) CO-OPS Tides & Currents service. The request contains a station identifier and a date range; your nearest station is chosen on your device.
• NOAA buoy observations — with Lunaday+, today’s wave and water-temperature readings come from NOAA’s National Data Buoy Center (NDBC), from buoys off U.S. coasts. The request contains only a buoy identifier.
• Apple’s geocoding service — Apple’s CLGeocoder receives your location, rounded to about 1 km, to look up its place name and time zone, and a place you type (a name or coordinates) to find it. Apple’s privacy practices apply.

Where no NOAA station is near, or NOAA can’t be reached, tides are computed on your device from bundled TICON-4 tide constants and labelled “Computed”, with no network request. NOAA’s privacy practices are described at noaa.gov/protecting-your-privacy.

What we collect

Nothing is collected by us. Lunaday does not gather, store, or transmit personal information to the developer, and there is no profile or history kept off your device. Lunaday+ purchases are handled by Apple and checked on your device; the developer never sees your payment information.

Lunaday is suitable for all ages.
